Starter Kit for White People Ready to End White Supremacy
It is past time for white people to take action to dismantle systemic racism and white supremacy. This is a guide with information for those ready to do the work. It starts with you and your willingness. May you find courage, compassion, and justice on your journey.
Here is a list of ways to take responsibility:
1) Act Now
There is no time to pretend we are not all affected by the brutality and inequality rampant in this country. We need to take immediate action to reduce harm to oppressed groups. Here is a document with steps we can take right away: bit.ly/BlackLivesAction
2) Educate Yourself
It is not the job of people of color to teach you about racism and white supremacy, white privilege or white fragility. Here are a list of books to read, pick 1, pick 3, pick 5, get started.
3) Show Up
Show up to protests, show up to conversations with people of color that you are invited to join, donate to organizations who are doing the work.
Here is a helpful article with more actions you can take as an antiracist white person.
Here is a list of some of the organizations you can donate to.
Local to Oakland: antipoliceterrorproject.org
4) Hold yourself, systems, and other white people accountable
Check your own bias, privilege and entitlement all the time. Hold the police, all systems, and politicians accountable. See link under Act Now for steps to hold the police and politicians accountable now. Call out bias and racism on the spot when you hear and see it.
5) Step Back
In conversation be aware of your positionality (the power you hold and your comfortability based on the color of your skin, your
class, citizen status, gender, sexuality and physical ability).
Let others take the lead in group discussions and don't jump to share, instead wait to allow for others to share. Come to learn and listen, not to teach and assume, or show how much you "know" about the experience of others.
6) Think before you call the police
Police presence is automatically a danger to the lives of people of color.
Some things to consider before you call the police:
-Is someone in physical danger or are you protecting property (property does not have more importance than life!)?
-Does someone seem suspicious because of an unchecked bias you have?
-Is there a way to solve the problem on your own or with the help of a community member?
-Can you go to a police station to report harm to human life rather than bring the police into the community?
Your commitment to being anti-racist all the time is essential, for until we all rise together we all fall. It is time to heal the deep injustice this country was built upon and continues to operate under. It is up to the people to make this change and the time is NOW.
In love and solidarity.
Please add helpful information in comments below and share with as many white folks as possible.

Tarot Misconceptions

I am so glad that I was introduced to Tarot cards by an acquaintance. Before her I thought that Tarot was used to see the future and that was the only purpose. I think this is a common misconception. After meeting the above mentioned person, I realized Tarot is so much more. Tarot cards are a tool for self discovery, foremost.
It is recommended that those who are interested in Tarot choose a pack that suits them and then studies and "meditates" on each card (more about meditation in a future post). One book that I was using to study the cards, suggested imagining myself walking into the scene on each of the Major Arcana cards and letting it unfold, seeing where my imagination took me. All this intuitive wisdom I wasn't aware of, began to unravel within that practice. The process of studying the deck takes a while, but its worth the journey, as each card reveals something(s) about yourself. Then once you have gotten to know the pack (and a lot about yourself), its really fun and useful to ask questions and pull cards to help answer them. The deck I use is the Rider-Waite deck (shown in pic). There are a lot of books about that deck so its a good place to start.
Here is a free PDF about how to learn Tarot. Enjoy!

Retrograde Perspective
We are in a retrograde triangle right now with Mars, Pluto and Mercury all in retrograde. I am just beginning to study astrology and its affect on my personal life, so I am no expert, but I want to share some great resources. I do list retrogrades in my calendar (shared in the previous post). And just for fun, see the Urban Dictionary definition of a mercury retrograde here.
While many view retrogrades as a time to be wary, Moon + Quartz is doing something great called the Retrograde Project that looks at the phenomena in a new light.
Here is an article from my favorite website on the Mars retrograde happening currently. And here is one from the same site on the Mercury retrograde.
I see retrogrades as a time to slow down and reflect, process, and wish, rather than act - and I have come to love this opportunity. I hope you can too!
Oh and if interested here is an article on the Pluto retrograde.
Plus, I get most of my astrological inspiration from Small Spells' Instagram account. Check her out!

It all Started with the Moon
We may have all had that moment when we tell a friend we feel crazy and they remind us that the moon is full. It really amazed me when I began to pay attention to the phase of the moon and my mood. I wanted to have easy access to moon info so I made a calendar. It's simple with basic information including what sign the full moon is in each month and what you can do to keep in touch during a waxing and waning moon. It also includes mercury retrograde periods which I will provide more info on in another post. Here is the calendar, I hope it's useful!

New Beginnings
“A woman in harmony with her spirit
is like a river flowing.
She goes where she will without pretense
and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself,
and only herself.”
~Maya Angelou
At the end of 2015, things began to change. Again. With each new life epiphany, the lessons become deeper and the change is more profound. Events happen that call us awake and ask us to face ourselves and examine our life path. At these times we ask questions about where we have been, our current situation, and where we desire to go. In 2005 after a family member passed I was in that place, and then again in 2013 when I lost someone dear to me because of my own destructive behavior. And now again, it seems my life has turned upside down and I am faced with the same questions and perhaps the same lesson.
But this time is different. This time I have tools and I am awakening to something greater than myself and the greatness of myself at once. I have a strong urge to share this journey and the need for a place to collect all of the beautiful morsels I'm finding along the way. I am excited to record and share my path here. I hope that my journey helps others get to know themselves and awaken to the divine feminine - the goddess that is within every woman.
Stay tuned for astrological insights, Tarot discoveries, creative projects, healing practices, meditations, adventures, and tales of awakening the goddess within. "I am my own autonomous muse"
