Tarot Misconceptions

I am so glad that I was introduced to Tarot cards by an acquaintance. Before her I thought that Tarot was used to see the future and that was the only purpose. I think this is a common misconception. After meeting the above mentioned person, I realized Tarot is so much more. Tarot cards are a tool for self discovery, foremost.

It is recommended that those who are interested in Tarot choose a pack that suits them and then studies and "meditates" on each card (more about meditation in a future post). One book that I was using to study the cards, suggested imagining myself walking into the scene on each of the Major Arcana cards and letting it unfold, seeing where my imagination took me. All this intuitive wisdom I wasn't aware of, began to unravel within that practice. The process of studying the deck takes a while, but its worth the journey, as each card reveals something(s) about yourself. Then once you have gotten to know the pack (and a lot about yourself), its really fun and useful to ask questions and pull cards to help answer them. The deck I use is the Rider-Waite deck (shown in pic). There are a lot of books about that deck so its a good place to start.

Here is a free PDF about how to learn Tarot. Enjoy!

Retrograde Perspective

We are in a retrograde triangle right now with Mars, Pluto and Mercury all in retrograde. I am just beginning to study astrology and its affect on my personal life, so I am no expert, but I want to share some great resources. I do list retrogrades in my calendar (shared in the previous post). And just for fun, see the Urban Dictionary definition of a mercury retrograde here.

While many view retrogrades as a time to be wary, Moon + Quartz is doing something great called the Retrograde Project that looks at the phenomena in a new light.

Here is an article from my favorite website on the Mars retrograde happening currently. And here is one from the same site on the Mercury retrograde.

I see retrogrades as a time to slow down and reflect, process, and wish, rather than act - and I have come to love this opportunity. I hope you can too!

Oh and if interested here is an article on the Pluto retrograde.

Plus, I get most of my astrological inspiration from Small Spells' Instagram account. Check her out!

It all Started with the Moon

We may have all had that moment when we tell a friend we feel crazy and they remind us that the moon is full. It really amazed me when I began to pay attention to the phase of the moon and my mood. I wanted to have easy access to moon info so I made a calendar. It's simple with basic information including what sign the full moon is in each month and what you can do to keep in touch during a waxing and waning moon. It also includes mercury retrograde periods which I will provide more info on in another post. Here is the calendar, I hope it's useful!

New Beginnings

“A woman in harmony with her spirit
is like a river flowing.
She goes where she will without pretense
and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself,
and only herself.”
~Maya Angelou

At the end of 2015, things began to change. Again. With each new life epiphany, the lessons become deeper and the change is more profound. Events happen that call us awake and ask us to face ourselves and examine our life path. At these times we ask questions about where we have been, our current situation, and where we desire to go. In 2005 after a family member passed I was in that place, and then again in 2013 when I lost someone dear to me because of my own destructive behavior. And now again, it seems my life has turned upside down and I am faced with the same questions and perhaps the same lesson.

But this time is different. This time I have tools and I am awakening to something greater than myself and the greatness of myself at once. I have a strong urge to share this journey and the need for a place to collect all of the beautiful morsels I'm finding along the way. I am excited to record and share my path here. I hope that my journey helps others get to know themselves and awaken to the divine feminine - the goddess that is within every woman.

Stay tuned for astrological insights, Tarot discoveries, creative projects, healing practices, meditations, adventures, and tales of awakening the goddess within. "I am my own autonomous muse"
